America's Cup: Dorothea Wierer sets sail

Dorothea Wierer made a special trip into another sporting world in Cagliari: The former biathlon queen was a prominent guest on board Luna Rossa during the preliminary rounds of the America's Cup 2027.

From the cross-country ski track to the sea: At the invitation of Pirelli, partner of the Italian sailing team, Wierer was able to experience Italy's most famous boat up close. Under the Sardinian sun, the South Tyrolean woman boarded the yacht – and afterwards expressed her enthusiasm. For her, it was a "wonderful experience".

The start was also a sporting success. Luna Rossa got off to a strong start in Cagliari in the regattas, which are considered the first taste of the America's Cup 2027. The grey boat with Marco Gradoni and Margherita Porro was particularly impressive and took the lead in the overall standings after the first few races. Wierer could certainly feel like a lucky charm.

The preliminary regattas mark the beginning of a great series: In the summer of 2027, the prestigious sailing trophy will be awarded in Italy for the first time, in Naples. Luna Rossa dreams of a historic coup there – the first Italian victory in the world's oldest sporting trophy.
