The SCM canoeist had to settle for 24th place in the semifinals, clearly missing the final, for which only the twelve best paddlers in the semifinals qualify. "I was pretty nervous and just missed a surf wave. So I had to paddle a detour and lost quite a bit of time. Until then, qualifying for the finals would have been within reach," Annika Zoe Senoner explained her time deficit. "I hope I can achieve this goal at the European Championships," the Meran native hopes.
"The first World Championships went very well for Sara and Annika. They were able to improve their performance over the course of the competitions and gained a great deal of experience. Unfortunately, a few driving errors and three touches of the gate prevented Annika from possibly reaching the final," believes coach Stefan Senoner, who is also the father of Annika Zoe and Lars Aaron. "The competition increased significantly in the final," Senoner is convinced. World Championship gold went to Hanna Danek of Poland, silver to Barbora Ondrackova of the Czech Republic, and bronze to Mina Blume of Germany.
Annika Zoe Senoner's teammate, Isabel Lovato (Valstagna), qualified for the final by finishing ninth in the semifinals, but did not compete there, finishing twelfth. Annika Zoe Senoner finished 24th, and Sara Furlan 32nd. Xabier Ferrazzi secured Italy's only medal win so far at the U23 and U18 Canoe Slalom World Championships in Foix yesterday. The son of the 1 K1992 Olympic canoe slalom champion, Pierpaolo Ferrazzi, only lost out to Frenchman Titouan Castryk in the U23 single kayak to take World Championship silver. Two fourth-place finishes were achieved by Michele Pistoni in the U1 K23 and Daniele Romano in the U1 K18. Lars Aaron Senoner (16) from SC Meran/Raika-Torggler, the younger brother of Annika Zoe Senoner, will paddle in the semi-final of the single canoe at the U18 World Championships in Foix tomorrow for one of the twelve places in the final.
