The 69th International Canoe Slalom concluded today with a race for world ranking points on the Adige River. The slalom canoeists from SC Meran/Raika-Torggler once again put on an outstanding performance. Carolin Schaller (28) even secured a podium finish. Three years after her second-place finish in the World Ranking Slalom on the Passer River, she again achieved second place in the World Ranking Slalom, this time on the Adige.
Yesterday, the strong winds cost the Augsburg native, who has been paddling for SC Meran for five or six years, a podium finish. She received a two-second penalty for touching a gate due to the wind. Despite posting the second-fastest time, she had to settle for fourth place. Today's World Ranking slalom went better for Schaller. "After qualifying for the final in seventh place, I corrected a few mistakes in the final run and achieved second place with a flawless performance," Carolin Schaller said happily.
Lars Aaron Senoner pointed it out.
Lars Aaron Senoner (17) also paddled to two good results, narrowly missing the podium twice. He finished a fantastic fourth in the C1 (canoe single). In his favorite discipline, the K1 (kayak single), he was once again able to keep pace with Italy's best U23 paddlers, securing a respectable fifth place. "I'm more than satisfied with my results at the international races. After my podium finish yesterday in the C1, I had a superb run in today's K1 final, where I was able to compete with Italy's best U23 slalom canoeists. I also just missed the podium in the C1, finishing fourth. I'm very happy with my performance," said Lars Aaron Senoner, a promising young talent from SC Meran.
Even 14-year-old Jacopo Vicentini impressed in his first appearance at the International Canoe Slalom in Merano, showcasing his talent. Following his sensational fifth-place finish yesterday, the 14-year-old delivered another strong performance today, securing ninth place in the K1 kayak. “I’m very happy with my results, especially my fifth place at the Forst Trophy. I’m more than satisfied with ninth place today as well. It’s a shame that I missed out on the final of the top twelve at the Italian U23 Championships by half a second yesterday, finishing 13th in the qualifying round,” lamented Jacopo Vicentini.
