Three SCM canoeists compete at the Junior World Championships in Foix

Three young athletes from SC Meran/Raika-Torggler will be competing in a world championship for the first time: Annika Zoe Senoner (17), Sara Furlan (17) and Lars Aaron Senoner (16) will represent Italy in the U18 category. Annika Senoner and Sara Furlan will compete in the single kayak (K1) and complete their qualifying heats on Tuesday. The top 20 in the first qualifying heat will advance to the semifinals, and another ten in the second. Their goal is to place among the top 30 to compete for one of the 12 final spots in the semifinals on Thursday. They will also compete in the K1 team heat with Isabel Lovato in the afternoon. Lars Senoner is the first SCM canoeist ever to compete in the C18 singles at a Junior World Championship (U1). His qualification will take place on Wednesday, with the semifinals and final scheduled for Friday. Lars will also paddle in the Italian national team uniform in the C1 team race. The challenging whitewater canal in Foix runs along a natural riverbed with fast, low water levels, demanding a high level of boat control and precise technique from the canoeists. The Italian team is motivated – even if Tamara Drescher has to do without: The 21-year-old athlete from SC Meran was qualified in the U23 kayak singles, but had to withdraw for health reasons and has already left. Meanwhile, Carolin Schaller competed in the ECA Junior Slalom Cup in Augsburg last weekend. The 27-year-old won the women's single kayak (General Class) on her home course on both days. Despite two penalty seconds, she led the field in both races.
