Lars Aaron Senoner secures World Cup and European Championship tickets

After the difficult start in Ivrea (Piedmont), the canoeists of SC Meran/Raika-Torggler showed strong performances in the further qualifying races in Tacen, near the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana.

Lars Aaron Senoner made a major breakthrough on the challenging whitewater course as part of the “Paddle Europe Open Slalom Cup”: The 17-year-old qualified in the U18 kayak single for the Junior World Championships in Krakow (Poland) and the European Championships in Épinal (France).

The races on Friday and Saturday also served as qualifiers for the Italian junior, U23, and senior national teams, with the first run on Friday and the final qualifying race on Saturday. After narrowly missing the qualifying criteria in Ivrea, Lars Aaron Senoner showed a significant improvement in Tacen. With a strong and flawless run on Friday, he finished 11th overall. In the overall standings of the national U18 qualification in the K1 kayak, he finished ahead of Marco Bacchin and Oliver Fina. However, Senoner narrowly missed qualifying in the C1 canoe. The third and final starting place will be awarded at the Italian U18 Championships in Valstagna in three weeks.

“I had a really good flow on the water today. The line was perfect and I just tried to let the boat run,” Senoner explained after the race. “Of course, I’m extremely happy about qualifying in the K1. Even more would have been possible in the C1, but now I’m fully focused on my chance in Valstagna.”
Sara Furlan also put in a good performance on the difficult course.

The U18 athlete achieved, among other things, a flawless run without touching a gate on Friday. While this wasn't enough for direct qualification, she is maintaining her chances of a place on the national team at the Italian Championships in Valstagna.
For 14-year-old Jacopo Vicentini, the races in Tacen were a first at this level. Despite some driving errors, he bravely mastered the difficult track and gained valuable international experience.

Carolin Schaller (28), who competes for SC Meran and works as a teacher in Augsburg, did not qualify for the Italian national team despite strong performances. Nevertheless, the weekend in Tacen was an important success for SC Meran/Raika-Torggler. The next major competition on the Passer River, the 69th International Canoe Slalom in Meran, follows next weekend.
