Lars Senoner defies difficult route

On Wednesday, Lars Aaron Senoner made his first international appearance in the Canadian singles (C1 U18) at the Junior World Canoe Slalom Championships in Foix (France).

The 16-year-old athlete from SC Meran-Raika/Torggler mastered the technically demanding natural course brilliantly and advanced to the semifinals on Friday in 18th place.

"The race was particularly difficult for the canoeists, as it's very easy to lose balance in shallow water with a strong current," explained coach Stefan Senoner. "There were several capsizes – Lars handled them brilliantly." His performance is particularly remarkable given that SC Meran has hardly any canoeing tradition.

In the C1 team race, Lars Senoner competed for Italy alongside Dennis Fina and Riccardo Pontarollo. The trio delivered a solid team performance, finishing 7th in a close race. "The team race was quite close. Minor mistakes dashed the medal dream, but the result is very positive given the team's young age," the coach concluded. The victory went to France, ahead of Spain and the Czech Republic.
