Top performance by Tamara Drescher

At the first qualification weekend for the Italian national team of the general class in Tacen, Slovenia, the slalom canoeists of SC Meran/Raika-Torggler were able to gain important experience.

The qualification runs over a total of four races, which will be held last weekend in Tacen (Slovenia) and next weekend in Ivrea. In Tacen, Tamara Drescher (21) and Carolin Schaller (27) competed for places on the senior national team, while junior rider Lars Aaron Senoner (15) gained international competition experience.

Tamara Drescher had bad luck in Saturday's open race: In the first qualifying run, she missed two gates, received 100 penalty seconds, and finished only 26th. On Sunday, she showed a strong response: At the ICF Ranking race, she finished second in the semifinals as the best Italian and finished fourth in the final. This placed her second among the Italians in the second qualifying ranking behind Stefanie Horn.

Drescher is overjoyed

"This weekend I learned a lot about myself. I'm happy that I managed to achieve my goals. It also showed me what I still need to work on in the future," said Drescher.

Carolin Schaller delivered consistent performances on both days. On Saturday, she finished ninth in the semifinals and seventh in the final. On Sunday, she reached eighth place in the semifinals and finished sixth in the final. This translated to fourth and fifth place in the Italian qualifying rankings.

Next weekend, the third and fourth qualification rounds will take place at the international canoe slalom in Ivrea (Piedmont), also an ICF ranking race. The final decisions regarding the nominations for the World Cups and the European Championships will be made there.
