Olympian from 1992 wins at Lake Reschen

One week after the Soling Alpine Cup and the Longtze Alps Trophy international tower regatta, Lake Reschen once again hosted a sailing regatta over the weekend. This time it was the premiere of the Minialtura class on the reservoir in the Upper Vinschgau valley.

High-ranking participants, including Olympians and world champions, competed in various boat classes. It was an interesting experience for all involved. The host sailing club, Reschensee, fielded three boats: the Soling boats Black Jack (skippered by Andreas Lechthaler) and Lea (skippered by Arnold Ortler), and the Longtze yacht Tough Cookie (skippered by Dominique Thurnherr). Races could only be held on Saturday.

Under ideal wind conditions with a southerly wind of approximately 20 knots, three races were completed on Saturday. On Sunday, there was no wind until the regatta committee reached its decision at noon. Therefore, no further races were held.

The clear winner was Roberto Benamati, president of the Star class in the Italian Sailing Federation, who participated in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. A superb second place went to the boat Black Jack from the Reschensee Sailing Club, skippered by Andreas Lechthaler, with Hubert Gunsch and Lukas Gerstl on board. Black Jack is an up-and-coming team within the Reschensee Sailing Club, which plans to compete in regattas outside the region in the future.

Dominique Thurnherr and his Longtze yacht Tough Cookie were first in all races. However, due to the ORC rating, he had to settle for fourth place overall. The next events on Lake Reschen are the international skeeta training and youth training for local sailors, as well as the Peter Oberhofer Memorial Regatta in August.
