Things got serious at the Brixen Swim Meeting.
Brixen Swim Meeting a complete success
Despite all forecasts, the 550 athletes who "celebrated" the start of the long-course season at the Brixen outdoor pool last weekend stayed dry outside the Olympic-sized pool. The Brixen Swim Meeting was a complete success.

While on Saturday a few gusts of wind caused a bit too much movement on the lawn dotted with tents and backpacks, on Sunday the weather was glorious, perfectly matching the atmosphere. The mood in and around the competition pool, as well as in the stands, reflected the excitement that especially the younger swimmers had to cope with during their first appearances in the long pool.
The program included the 50m, 100m, and 200m races in all strokes and four categories, the 400m freestyle for the 24 fastest entry times, the 400m individual medley for the 16 fastest entry times, and the 400m medley relay. As in previous years, the highlight of Saturday was the knockout final, for which the 8 best swimmers qualified based on FINA points.
Exciting competitions
Over the 50m distance, the slowest athlete in each heat chooses the swimming style, and the two slowest are eliminated. Ultimately, Hannah Oberhauser and Gaia Neidinger, both from SSV Bruneck, battled for victory in the women's 50m freestyle. Lilly Fränzl from SSV Bozen finished third. In the men's freestyle, Luca Scampicchio, also from SSV Bozen, defeated Pietro Rossi from Coopernuoto, with Patrick Bevilacqua, also from SSV Bozen, taking third place. The men's 4x50m medley relay team from SSV Bozen also caused a stir, setting a new regional record in the open category with their winning time of 1:46.92 (Walzl, Dibiasi, Bevilacqua, Scampicchio). The women's 4x50m medley relay team from SSV Bozen, consisting of Pertoll, Fränzl, Aster, and Wieser, also shone. That SSV Bozen then also won the team competition was ultimately no surprise; they secured first place with 549 points, ahead of Centro Nuoto le Bandie and Rappresentativa FIN Alto Adige.
In addition to City Councillor Sara Dejakum, representatives of the South Tyrolean swimming world Walter Taranto (Regional Committee FIN South Tyrol) and Igor Lusetti (VSS Head of Swimming Department), Paolo Trotter (USSA) and the City Works Director General Franz Berretta as "host", Peter Brunner as Regional Councillor for Sport was also pleased with the successful event and even congratulated some winners from near and far during the awards ceremony.
Nationally and internationally successful FISDIR athletes from various Italian clubs also participated in Brixen. They competed in almost all events and, for the second time, fully embraced inclusion. The strongest FISDIR team was Sport Life Onlus Montebelluno. For the organizers, the ASV Brixen Swimming Club and the Disabled Sports Section of SSV Brixen, the next meeting is already on the horizon, especially since the 2027 edition will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Brixen Swim Meeting.
