SCM swimmers on the road to success

At the beginning of the year, the swimming section of the Merano Sports Club took part in the Memorial Chiara Giavi in Montebelluna near Venice - as it has done in previous years - and was extremely successful.

The international swimming competition took place for the 25th time and was held on January 3 and 4 in the swimming pools operated by Montenuoto.

From a technical point of view, this competition is an excellent alternative to the usual training, as the competition format includes heats and finals. In addition, the competition is always the best training for the swimmers - especially at this stage of the season when the athletes in this country cannot compete with the competition until mid-February.

In total, the Merano team reached an impressive 21 finals and 7 individual podium places.

Particularly noteworthy are:

Viviane Graif (first over 100m breaststroke in the “assoluti”)
Florian Lex (first over 100m backstroke in the “assoluti” and second over 200m).
Philipp Lintner won a double bronze medal in the 200m individual medley and 400m freestyle in the “assoluti”, while he finished third in the 200m freestyle in the juniors.
Lukas Erhart came third in the 50m freestyle among the juniors.

Hannah Spitaler and Samantha Ortler reached the finals in the 50m freestyle, Annabelle Wild and Denise Kienzl in the 100m backstroke, Paul Spitaler in the 100m breaststroke and Nora Höllrigl in the 100m freestyle.

After third place in both the men's and women's categories at the regional competition of the Brema Cup, this event also demonstrated the steady growth of the young Merano athlete group.
