Thomas Ceccon is cleaning up again

Thomas Ceccon has already won his third medal at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore.

The 24-year-old Italian snatched the silver medal in the 100-meter backstroke on Tuesday. Ceccon had previously won silver in the 4x100-meter relay and bronze in the 50-meter butterfly at the Asian Championships.

Ceccon missed gold by five hundredths of a second on Tuesday. South African Pieter Goetze took the gold. Bronze went to Frenchman Yohann Ndoye-Brouard. Ceccon completely missed the start and was only in eighth place halfway through the race.

Ceccon’s compatriot Simona Quadarella had already provided a highlight, who only had to bow to the great Katie Ledecky in the 1.500 freestyle. While the American won her 22nd gold medal at a World Championship, the Italian set a new European record. The 26-year-old was a full 7,09 seconds faster than Denmark's Lotte Friis twelve years ago. Australian Lana Pallister took third place.
