Diving: Azure podium finishes in Bolzano

The 47th edition of the Diving Meeting in Bolzano kicked off on Friday. The Azzurri were delighted to score podium finishes right from the start.

Between July 4 and 6, the divers will compete at the highest level, with their goal clearly in mind: the World Championships in Singapore (July 11 to August 3). The final tough test before the major event will provide the necessary fine-tuning. Several athletes already mastered this task with flying colors right from the start. The first decisive victory came from the 3-meter springboard, with an Italian duo prevailing in the synchronized diving competition. Chiara Pellacani and Elisa Pizzini (280,2 points) prevailed ahead of Vitaliia Koroleva and Viktoria Frolova (276,60/Russia) and the Americans Anna Kwong and Sophia Verzyl (269,25).

The Azzurri's hopes then rested on Giovanni Tocci, who finished second in the preliminary round, and his compatriot Matteo Santoro. However, the duo were unable to make it to the top on the 3-meter springboard. Britain's Ross Haslam (434,60) snatched the win ahead of Luke Sitz (425,30/USA) and Tocci (414,25). Santoro at least managed fifth place (398,40). In the women's competition, Sarah Jodoin di Maria came into focus after taking first place in the preliminary round, but in the final in the early evening, the Azzurra were defeated by American Sophia McAffee (298,40). The Canadian-born athlete was just 2,15 points away from victory. Third place went to Russia's Elizaveta Kanso (291,15).
