“Pretty deep wound”: Italy suffers another setback

On Tuesday, Italy faced their first placement match; a win against Montenegro would have given them the chance to secure a respectable fifth place at this year's World Cup. However, they suffered a painful 8-12 defeat against the Balkan team. So, while Montenegro will play the winner of the match between the USA and Croatia for fifth place on Thursday starting at 14.00:XNUMX p.m., the four-time world champions from the boot-shaped country will now face the loser of that match for seventh place. "The wound of the defeat against Greece hasn't healed yet, that much is clear. And it's a pretty deep wound," national coach Alessandro Campagna was quoted as saying in a statement from the Italian Football Federation. "Today's performance wasn't bad: we just weren't cool enough in the final stages. The result is ultimately bitter. Finding motivation in games like these is never easy. I'm convinced the results will come – as has always been the case in the history of the Settebello." Austrian narrowly misses bronze Decisions were also made in synchronized swimming on Tuesday – with a bitter end for Austrian Vasiliki Alexandri, who narrowly missed out on a medal in her second World Championship competition in Singapore. In the solo free final, she finished 0,5 points behind Spain, China, and Belarus, the Austrian Swimming Association announced in a press release. The 27-year-old received 238,9976 points for her self-created choreography. Alexandri had already swum fourth in the solo technique competition, narrowly missing out on a medal. "To finish fourth twice at the World Championships is a fantastic achievement," she commented on her result. In the final on Tuesday, she swam four points more difficult than in the preliminary round to at least have a chance of winning a medal, she explained. "I took the risk; everything was up for grabs for me. It could have worked, but I could also have finished last with a penalty." However, she was "naturally very sad" that she ultimately didn't win the medal.
