With Swiss victory: Best World Cup result for Auchentaller

The women's mass start took place in Oslo on Saturday. In addition to a rather surprising Swiss victory, Hannah Auchentaller in particular made people sit up and take notice with an extremely strong performance.

What an exciting competition! At the women's mass start in the Norwegian capital Oslo, the lead changed lap after lap, but one athlete was consistently at the front and then struck ice cold in the last lap: Lena Häcki-Groß. The 28-year-old Swiss only made two shooting errors and otherwise showed a very strong performance. For Häcki-Groß it was the second triumph of the season after the Antholz success.

Julia Simon came in second behind Häcki-Groß. The Frenchwoman missed the target a total of four times at the shooting range, but on the cross-country ski trail she was in a class of her own on Saturday. For the last podium place, a three-way battle between Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold, Lou Jeanmonnot and Lisa Vittozzi loomed on the last lap. The “Azzurra”, who had already won the small crystal ball in the individual World Cup on Friday, finally ran out of strength and had to let her competitors go and settle for fifth place. In the end, the Frenchwoman Jeanmonnot took third place, just ahead of Tandrevold.

Hannah Auchentaller, on the other hand, put in a really strong performance at the mass start. The woman from Antholz started the race in 30th and last place, but didn't let that deter her and immediately showed off with two faultless prone stages. Auchentaller was also doing well on the cross-country ski trail at the beginning, but towards the end her body no longer cooperated and she fell behind a little. In the end she finished in a very strong 14th place.

Nevertheless: It was the best World Cup result for Auchentaller so far in her young career. And the fact that she was in the top 10 for a long time gives great hope for a successful future. The fact that she had one fewer mistakes than Vittozzi (she only made 2 mistakes, while Vittozzi made 3) speaks particularly well for the young Antholzer.
