Biathlon World Championships 2028 will take place in North Tyrol

The Biathlon World Championships will be held in Hochfilzen for the fourth time in 2028. This was decided by the Congress of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) on Saturday in Belgrade.

In the double award, Hochfilzen was awarded the preferred World Cup in three and a half years, while Oslo was awarded the World Cup in 2029. Unsurprisingly, the Finnish candidate Kontiolahti came away empty-handed. Hochfilzen in the North Tyrolean Pillerseetal was also the host venue for the World Cup in 1978, 2005 and 2017.

"Thank you for your trust. We are very happy and look forward to welcoming you to Hochfilzen," said ÖSV President Roswitha Stadlober after the delegates' vote. Following a proposal by the IBU Executive Board to the Congress, the vote was clear with 44 out of 46 votes. The Oslo proposal for 2029 also received an overwhelming majority in favor.
