This Tommy Giacomel is a phenomenon

Tommaso Giacomel has finally arrived at the top of the biathlon world. The Trentino native sprinted onto the podium at the World Cup in Nove Mesto – and did so in impressive fashion.

Giacomel has never been as good as he has been this year: The 24-year-old made it onto the podium for the fifth time on Thursday at the first World Cup after the World Championships. In Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, last year's World Championship venue, Giacomel was only beaten by the flawless Frenchman Emilien Jacquelin. "Tommy" left third-placed Johannes Thingnes Bø one second behind.

Giacomel's final lap was particularly impressive. After the last shooting, the Italian was still in fifth place. On the last lap, Giacomel left the Norwegians Bø and Endre Strømsheim behind, among others.

Lukas Hofer had to settle for 46th place with three mistakes. European champion Patrick Braunhofer, who missed once, finished two places ahead of him.

Wierer & Co. join on Friday

The World Cup in Nove Mesto continues on Friday (18.25:14.55 p.m.) with the women's sprint. With Dorothea Wierer, Hannah Auchentaller and Linda Zingerle (who is celebrating her World Cup comeback after several years), three South Tyroleans will be taking part. The men's turn will be on Saturday (XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.) with a pursuit. Giacomel's starting position will then be excellent.
