Sad farewell to biathlon.

A biathlon farewell that caused a lot of tears

The biathlon season is coming to an end - and with it the time is getting closer when one or two careers will come to an end. A farewell was extremely emotional.

How do you know that an athlete has left a mark in her career? Of course, especially when it comes to the sporting aspect - medals, victories and successes last forever. But there is also an emotional level. Sweden's Mona Brorsson has managed to be remembered in both ways. She won Olympic gold and silver in the relay – and she caused a lot of tears among her teammates last weekend.

After the end of the World Cup, the 33-year-old announced that she would end her career after this season. This caught her friends from the Swedish team off guard. “Mona meant an incredible amount to this team and to me personally. We will miss her,” says Anna Magnusson in tears. And Hanna Öberg was also touched. She is truly the glue that holds us together. We will miss you."

Biathlon as the love of life

Brorsson herself is happy with her decision. “Even though you may not achieve all of your goals, I feel like I have gained so much more from this sport. “He really gave me everything,” says the current 12th-place finisher in the overall World Cup. She also gets emotional: “I gained additional family and my best friends and learned so much about myself. I found the love of my life.”

In addition to the two Olympic medals, Brorsson also won relay silver at the 2019 World Championships in Östersund. In the World Cup she made it onto an individual podium twice: she came second once in the sprint and third once in the individual.
