IBU examines Ridnaun Biathlon Centre

The 2024/25 winter sports season is slowly but surely approaching. The athletes are in the middle of their preparations and the associations and venues are busy planning the competitions. This is also the case at the Ridnaun biathlon center, where the race directors of the International Biathlon Federation (IBU) recently carried out an inspection.

Two international competitions will take place in Ridnaun in the coming winter. From December 12th to 15th, 2024, the IBU Junior Cup will be hosted at the biathlon center in Maiern with its opening stage. An individual competition and two sprints are on the program. After the turn of the year, however, there will be another stage of the IBU Cup on the calendar. From February 5th to 8th, 2025, immediately after the European Championships in the nearby Martelltal (also counts as a stage of the IBU Cup), the second highest competition class in biathlon will be hosted in the Ridnaun Valley with one sprint, one pursuit and one mass start 60 for biathletes.

In addition to several representatives of the ASV Ridnaun, led by the new OK President Maria Theresia Wurzer - she has taken over the position from Manuel Volgger, who remains race director - the IBU Cup race director Kristijan Oja and the new IBU Junior Cup race director Tomasz Bernat were also present at the inspection.

The past editions and events in Ridnaun were discussed, those this winter were looked ahead to, ideas were exchanged, the course and the shooting range were inspected and the new IBU regulations were discussed. Nothing now stands in the way of what are expected to be two extremely exciting, international competitions at the highest level in the north of South Tyrol.
