Made in Nove Mesto – the city of countless sports stars

The Biathlon World Cup town of Nove Mesto na Morave has fewer inhabitants than, for example, the Überetscher municipality of Eppan. But it is home to figure skating icons, NHL stars, winter sports athletes from almost all disciplines, mountain bikers, track and field athletes and even extreme mountaineers. How can that be?

I have to admit, before my trip to Nove Mesto na Morave, I didn't know much about the town in the southeast of the Czech Republic, which has almost 10.000 inhabitants, except that the world's best biathletes stop there once a year. So I tried to read up. What struck me immediately: countless sports stars were born or grew up in Nove Mesto. After more detailed research, the following seemingly endless list emerged.
