Star biathlete looks forward to having children.

After the biathlon grief comes the baby joy

The biathlon family is growing! A star athlete will soon become a father for the first time – and at a particularly delicate moment for him.

The fate of Johannes Dale clearly demonstrates how fast-paced the business of being a Norwegian biathlete can be. The Scandinavian finished the 2023/24 season as the third-best biathlete, beaten only by the Bö brothers, Johannes Thingnes and Tarjei. A few months later, however, the world looked very different for Dale.

Last winter, the 27-year-old experienced an absolute nightmare season. After a disastrous start, the two-time World Cup runner-up was relegated to the second-tier IBU Cup. He made only a few World Cup appearances that winter, and before the World Championships in Lenzerheide, he was even dropped from the squad and left out of the championships.

It was a winter that left its scars. Dale now wants to heal them – with lots of training, but also through his latest personal happiness. As the biathlete recently announced, he will soon become a father for the first time. His wife Kristina is pregnant. "I can't wait to start Chapter 2.0 in my life," Dale wrote on Instagram.

Opposite the transmitter TV2 Dale showed humor – and alluded to the Bö brothers' retirement. "Since Johannes and Tarjei are no longer on the team, I thought there should still be a father on the team. I took responsibility this time," joked the biathlete.

Indeed, the retirement of the two biathlon superstars represents an opportunity for Dale, as it could give him a permanent foothold in the Norwegian World Cup team again next winter. As an expectant father, he'll certainly have plenty of euphoria in store.
