Prominent resignation from the German biathlon team

The 30-year-old German was in the senior squad for more than ten years, but recently had to repeatedly struggle with injuries and health setbacks. This is also why she was unable to qualify for the home World Championships in Oberhof, which begin next Wednesday.

“Even in the summer, before the injuries started, it was clear to me that I was entering my last season. My body and my head showed me that competitive sports should be over at the age of 31. I am absolutely ready for the next phase of my life,” said Hinz, whose birthday is at the end of March, in an association announcement on Saturday.

Vice world champion in Antholz Hinz celebrated her greatest individual success with World Cup silver in the individual 2020 in Antholz; overall, she won World Cup gold three times and World Cup silver four times. She also won bronze in the relay at last year's Olympic Games in Beijing.

Hinz had complained of back problems after the Summer World Cup in Ruhpolding at the end of August, then became ill, tore the outer ligament in his left foot and also suffered tendonitis in his right hand. She was unable to qualify for the World Cup team at the start of the season and started in the second-tier IBU Cup.

When she was scheduled to play in the World Cup, she caught a cold. She was still in action at the European Championships in Lenzerheide, but now she has ended her career. “I am ending my career feeling happy that I was able to experience so many beautiful moments with other great athletes during this time,” said Hinz.
