Ridnaun: Two Azzurri celebrate from the podium

On Saturday, a women's and a men's sprint were on the program at the IBU Junior Cup in the Ridnaun biathlon center. The Italians Ilaria Scattolo and Davide Compagnoni each took second place. The winners were the Frenchwoman Violette Bony and the German Elias Seidl.

Davide Compagnoni has shown great things so far at the IBU Junior Cup in Ridnaun: The “Azzurro” from Valtellina climbed onto the podium for the first time in the individual event on Thursday with third place, now he has even improved in the sprint and took second place with one missed shot in the standing position.

Only one was faster, by 28,2 seconds: The German Elias Seidl impressed in Ridnaun with a very strong running performance, with which he made up for his mistake in the prone shooting and took his first victory in the IBU Junior Cup. "I am very satisfied with my performance today, especially in the standing shooting. The running was more strenuous than on Thursday, but I won and therefore I can only be satisfied," said Seidl after the award ceremony.

Third place went to one of the few men who remained flawless, the Frenchman Leo Carlier, who was 30,2 seconds behind Seidl. Fourth place went to his French compatriot Lionel Jouannaud (+31,0 seconds/1 mistake), fifth was the Ukrainian Mykhailo Khmil (+31,2 / 2 mistakes), sixth was the Czech Petr Hak (+36,6 / 1 mistake). Things went a bit mixed for the only South Tyrolean in the competition: Felix Ratschiller from Martell missed four times in the prone position and thus buried all hopes of a podium finish, but he cleared all targets in the standing position and ultimately managed to finish in 41st place.

France and Azzurre delight

The first women's sprint took place on Saturday morning in the Ridnaun biathlon center. After the German double victory in the individual, it was the French women who made a name for themselves this time. The winner was Violette Bony, who remained flawless on the shooting range and crossed the finish line after 22.16,5 minutes and XNUMX seconds. This is the very first time the Frenchwoman has taken part in an IBU Junior Cup: "I'm so happy. I went very well on the shooting range today. But I also really enjoyed this race today, I'm happy to be here," said a beaming Bony at the finish.

If Ilaria Scattolo hadn't missed once in the standing position, the "Azzurra" would probably have finished at the top. The athlete, who lives in Forni Avoltri, had to do one penalty loop and ended up 13,3 seconds behind Bony. Nevertheless, it was the best result so far in the IBU Junior Cup for the younger of the two Scattolos - her sister Sara came twelfth.

A Frenchwoman also took third place, Amandine Mengin was 21 seconds slower than her compatriot Bony with one mistake. Fourth and fifth places went to Alma Siegismund (Germany/+31,6 seconds) and Estere Volfa (Latvia/+48,1 seconds). The Italian Francesca Brocchiero climbed to sixth place thanks to a flawless shooting (+51,1 seconds), for her too it is the best individual result of her still young career.

There will also be sprinting at the Ridnaun Biathlon Center on Sunday: At the end of the IBU Junior Cup in Ridnaun, there will again be a women's and a men's sprint. The women's sprint will start again at 10.30:14.15 a.m., and the men will be on the trail from XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.
