“New, difficult, painful”: Vittozzi gives a deep insight

Biathlon superstar Lisa Vittozzi didn't compete in a single race last winter. Now she's giving us a glimpse into her inner life.

When Lisa Vittozzi lifted the crystal globe for the overall World Cup victory on March 17, 2024, she had no idea that a very difficult time awaited her, perhaps even the most difficult of her entire career. A persistent back injury forced the biathlon superstar to take many breaks, and at the beginning of 2025, the shocking news finally came: "I will not be competing this year."

The 2024/25 biathlon winter thus passed without a single race involving Vittozzi. At the same time, the biathlete withdrew from public life, gave no interviews, and only occasionally posted on social media. It was a completely new situation for the ski racer.

Now Vittozzi has spoken out on Instagram, posting some photos showing her life over the past few months. "My winter without biathlon. New, difficult, painful, but filled with so much affection and support," Vittozzi wrote.

The photos the Azzurra posted make it clear where she sought solace for her wounded soul: in the great outdoors. Whether on a ski tour, hiking in a mountain paradise, or taking a walk with her boyfriend Marco – Vittozzi feels completely at home in the great outdoors.

And of course, the exceptional athlete is also working toward her return. She wants to finally get back into the ring in the upcoming Olympic season. In mid-February, Vittozzi had already won the Gsieser Tal Run in South Tyrol. a secret mini cross-country skiing comeback celebrated, and over the next few months, the biathlete intends to slowly and carefully find her way back to her old form. One thing is certain: Lisa Vittozzi's return to the Biathlon World Cup would please many.
