“Very tough time”: World-class biathlete pulls the ripcord

There's no question: Émilien Jacquelin is one of the most talented biathletes on the scene. But in the last few months and years, the Frenchman's ups and downs have alternated more than with almost any other athlete. After a sobering World Cup, the 27-year-old from Grenoble has now ended his season early.

Jacquelin's press spokesman for the specialist portal says that he no longer sees himself in a position to practice his sport the way he would like nordicmag quoted. A lack of physical and mental freshness prevents him from practicing the disciplines with the desired excellence. "The tank is empty. “Sad but reassured, I announce that I am ending my season,” the Frenchman then wrote on social media.

“The last few months and years have been very difficult. I never really took the time to switch off and listen to myself. “Many thanks to my partners whose support I have received over the last few weeks,” said Jacquelin.

Lots of light and shadow The Frenchman was one of the big stars at the 2020 World Championships in Antholz when he won four medals, including gold in the pursuit race and in the relay. A year later he also won World Championship gold in pursuit on Pokljuka.

In the current season, Jacquelin took three podium places right at the start (third twice, second once), but after that the worm hit. Again and again there were races where absolutely nothing came together - which had happened frequently in previous years.

Above all, the individual competitions at the World Championships in Oberhof were forgettable. 36th place in the sprint (4 shooting errors), 37th place in the individual (3 shooting errors) and 20th place in the mass start (5 shooting errors) are more than disappointing for an athlete of his brand. Gold in the men's relay and bronze in the mixed relay were apparently little consolation for Jacquelin, as his season is now over.
