Unpleasant surprise for biathlon world champion

Sturla Holm Lægreid is one of the biggest stars in biathlon, but now she has received an unpleasant surprise from the police.

Last season, Sturla Holm Lægreid was a star, crowning himself sprint world champion in Nove Mesto and also winning two silver medals. But it is not just the Norwegian's medals that will be remembered, but above all the incident at the World Cup in Lenzerheide.

During dry training in the hotel, Lægreid's rifle went off. This caused a lot of trouble. Lægreid was excluded from the next race and had to give a long statement to the police. He was then fined by the Norwegian Federation and the International Biathlon Federation, and the entire team had to attend a course on the correct and safe handling of weapons.

A fine from the police

Lægreid actually thought that the chapter was closed. But that is not the case. In the past few days, the Norwegian superstar received a fine from the Swiss police. The 10.000-year-old must fork out another 850 Norwegian kroner - which is the equivalent of around 27 euros.

"This event has been haunting me for some time," says Lægreid. "It was a terrible thing and something you don't want to experience. If there is one positive aspect to this negative event: the whole biathlon environment now knows to be careful, not just our team, but everyone."
