When a young mother suddenly runs away from everyone

Justine Braisaz-Bouchet only became a mother for the first time in February 2023. Less than a year after the birth of her daughter, the Frenchwoman is stronger than ever and is blowing away the biathlon competition this year.

Justine Braisaz-Bouchet continues to be the benchmark in women's biathlon in the new year. After the 27-year-old won all three races in Lenzerheide before Christmas, she has now gone one better and also won the sprint in Oberhof on Friday. At the same time, Braisaz-Bouchet extended her lead in the overall World Cup. The Frenchwoman, who reported her teammate Julia Simon for credit card fraud in the summer, has now celebrated the same number of victories as before her baby break - in total she is at the top for the eighth time.

The competition didn't start well for Braisaz-Bouchet. She left two targets lying down, but then showed a perfect competition. Braisaz-Bouchet is currently in a class of her own, especially when it comes to running, and left everyone behind in the final lap. In the end she won ahead of the German Franziska Preuß (no errors) and her teammate Sophie Chauveau (one error).

Azzurre with light and shadow

Best Azzurra was once again Lisa Vittozzi in seventh place. A mistake in prone shooting prevented a possible podium finish. Samuela Comola (14th) and Michela Carrara (29th) also placed in the top 30. This time, however, we had a wasted day – in the absence of Dorothea Wierer – Hannah Auchentaller (58th) and Rebecca Passler (68th). The Antholz women left too much lying on the shooting range.

Already in the morning in Oberhof the Men's sprint took place. It continues in the Thuringian Forest on Saturday with the men's (12.25 p.m.) and women's (14.40 p.m.) pursuit races.
