Decision made about Vittozzi's relay partner

Italy's top biathletes Lukas Hofer and (especially) Tommaso Giacomel rather ruined the individual competition at the World Championships in Nove Mesto. Half an hour after the race, an important question was clarified.

Things looked good for Lukas Hofer for a long time: the Pusterer is actually in a good mood after his 9th place in the pursuit. Hofer also showed a good performance for long periods in the individual on Wednesday before he missed all of the last three shots. With a total of four penalty minutes, any chances of a top spot were gone. In the end, the veteran had to settle for 24th place.

Things went even worse for Tommaso Giacomel (45th), who missed the target a total of six times. For the ambitious Trentino native, this has so far been a used World Cup. The coaches subsequently decided that Giacomel would still be allowed to compete in the single mixed relay together with Lisa Vittozzi on Thursday (18 p.m.). The decision between Hofer and Giacomel is likely to be a close one. The first-genanter has been better at the World Cup so far, the second-genanter has shown stronger performances in the World Cup.

Giacomel had results of 15, 20 and 45 in Nove Mesto, while Hofer (18th, 9th, 24th) was twice better overall. However, the situation in the overall World Cup (Giacomel is in 10th place, Hofer in 27th place) spoke in favor of the youngster. At 19.21:XNUMX p.m., Italy's winter sports association (FISI) announced that those responsible for Giacomel have decided. He won last year Vittozzi in the Oberhof Bronze single mixed relay.

Bø in Bjørndalen's footsteps

Johannes Thingnes Bø once again took individual gold. This is the 19th overall for the Norwegian at the World Cup. This means Bø is well on the way to catching up with record holder and compatriot Ole Einar Bjørndalen, who has won 20 world championships. Silver went to Tarjei Bø on Wednesday. So the brother and sister once again have reason to celebrate. Benedikt Doll took bronze. This is the first medal for the German men in the title fights in the Czech Republic.
