Grand Prix final: Grassl impresses in Grenoble

South Tyrolean figure skater Daniel Grassl put in a remarkable performance at the Grand Prix final in Grenoble. The 22-year-old achieved fifth place in the short program.

With outstanding performances - including second place in Japan and third place in Finland - Daniel Grassl qualified for the Grand Prix final of figure skating, which took place in Grenoble, France. Only the best six athletes from the six events were invited to this highlight. Accordingly, the competition was fierce for the Meran native, who nevertheless showed a remarkable performance in the short program on Friday evening.

In the end, the 22-year-old was able to finish in fifth place. With 81,76 points, this was the maximum for the once again technically solid Grassl. The victory in the short program went to top skater Ilia Malinin from the USA, who clearly distanced himself from his competitors with 105,43 points. Second place went to the Japanese Yuma Kagiyama (93,49), while Mikhail Shaidorov landed in third place on the podium with 91,26 points.

The freestyle follows on Saturday

Grassl and Co. will continue in Grenoble on Saturday with the individual competition, which begins at 21 p.m. As a reminder: the points from both competitions will be added together at the end to determine the overall ranking. This means that Grassl still has a chance of finishing in the top places.
