The European Figure Skating Championships are currently underway in Sheffield, Great Britain. Anna Pezzetta caused a sensation in the short program: the 18-year-old from Bolzano is currently in third place and within striking distance of a medal. Pezzetta delivered a near-perfect performance, scoring 64,85 points.
Behind Niina Petrokina (Estonia/70,61 points) and Nina Pinzarrone (Belgium/64,97 points), Pezzetta is in third place at the halfway point. Fourth place is currently held by Lara Naki Gutmann from Trento, who, incidentally, has South Tyrolean roots: her father and grandparents were born in Bolzano. The ladies' free skate takes place on Friday evening.

Daniel Grassl didn't have a perfect day in the men's competition, but he still finished in 5th place, within striking distance of the medal positions. Maurizio Zandron from Bolzano, competing for Austria, is currently in 19th place, and Jari Kessler, from Nonsberg (competing for Croatia), is ranked 20th. The men's free skate will be held on Saturday afternoon.
In pairs skating, South Tyrolean Manuel Piazza, who competes for Iceland, and his partner Julia Sylvia Gunnarsdottir finished in 9th place.
