Arianna Fontana makes history.

In the women's 3.000-meter speed skating relay, all eyes were on one Italian skater. She secured her place in Italian sporting history by winning a medal.

Arianna Fontana is now definitively the most successful Italian Olympian: After equaling the eternal record of 13 Olympic medals held by the late fencing legend Edoardo Mangiarotti in the 500-meter short track, the 35-year-old added another medal on Wednesday in front of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

With the women's relay, the Italian team secured their 14th medal in the 3.000 meters, making them the sole record holder. Fontana has amassed five bronze, six silver, and three gold medals in her illustrious Winter Olympic career. These are likely to be Fontana's last Olympic Games.

South Korea wins gold

In the 3.000-meter final, the South Korean relay team ultimately prevailed over the Italians and Canada. The Dutch team had also started with strong chances of winning, but after contact, they fell far behind.
