Vigl crowned overall winner

The ISU Junior World Cup on the Ritten could not have started better: On Saturday, local hero Maybritt Vigl took second place in the 1000 meters and thus crowned herself the overall winner of the Neo Seniors on this distance.

It's almost kitschy, after all, Maybritt Vigl started her speed skating career on the ice rink of the Ritten Arena. The fact that she was crowned overall winner of the 1000 meters in the Neo Senior category of the Junior World Cup on Saturday in light snowfall quickly made the gloomy weather forgettable. The Ritten native took second place in the 1000 meters that opened the stage on the Ritten, 1,03 seconds behind Kazakh Alina Dauranova. Third place went to Norwegian Ina Nakken (+1,76 seconds).

In the junior category, Austrian Jeannine Rosner won the 1000 meters ahead of overall winner Hanna Mazur from Poland (+0,29 seconds) and South Korean Leewon Lim (+0,73 seconds). The best Azzurra here was Giorgia Fusetto, who came in 23rd. An Austrian was also the fastest in the men's neo seniors, Alexander Farthofer won with a time of 1.12,13 minutes ahead of Hungarian overall winner Bálint Bödei (+0,20 seconds) and Norwegian Finn Elias Haneberg (+0,26 seconds).

Ghiotto clears everything

The hosts also had reason to celebrate at the 3000-meter distance. Manuel Ghiotto from Noale (Veneto) won the stage in the Neo Seniors with a time of 3.52,05:1,52 minutes, making him the new overall winner at this distance. Farthofer (Austria, +4,32 seconds) came second on the day, and the German Gabriel Groß (+3000 seconds) took third place. In the Neo Seniors, the Norwegian Dina Storelid completed the fastest 4.38,42 meters in 1,52:7,21 minutes, ahead of the Italian Giulia Presti (+3000 seconds) and the German Julia Bachl (+XNUMX seconds), the latter also taking the overall victory in the XNUMX meters.

There was also a double victory on Saturday, as the Austrian Jeannine Rosner was unbeatable in the junior women's 1000 meters, just as she was in the 3000 meters. Here she also took the overall victory with her daily victory (4.26,63:4,42 minutes). Emily Tormen, an Azzurra, climbed onto the podium in second place (+5,06 seconds), while the German Melissa Schäfer (+XNUMX seconds) came third.

Azure Double in Team Sprint

The first day of the Junior World Cup on the Ritten was concluded with the team sprints. This was the next Italian overall victory in the Neo Seniors, as Ghiotto only took fifth place on the Ritten with Mattia Bernabè and Mattia Peghini, but that was enough for first place in the overall ranking. The day's victory went to the Czechs Tomás Bohumsky, Prokop Stodola and Metodej Jilek (1.26,74 minutes), who won ahead of South Korea (+0,17 seconds) and Hungary (+0,26 seconds). In the Neo Seniors, Maybritt Vigl, Laura Peveri and Giulia Presti took second place, 2,15 seconds behind Kazakhstan (1.35,56 minutes), and third place went to Norway (+3,64 seconds), who also took the overall victory in the team sprint.

On Sunday, February 2, the Junior World Cup on the Ritten will end with the second day of competition. Qualification for the mass start will begin at 9.30:500 a.m., then the 1500 and 2024 meters will be on the program before the final of the mass start concludes the 25/XNUMX Junior Speed Skating World Cup season.
