European Curling Championships in Bruneck: Double gold for Germany

At the open curling European Championships in Brunico this afternoon, the medals were awarded in the women's and men's individual finish competition. The Germans won both gold medals. Thomas Elsenberger was crowned individual European champion for the fifth time with 706 points. Marina Dunstmair, on the other hand, won the European Championship title for the first time with 655 points.

In the men's category, the silver medal went to the German Rudolf Winkler with 702 points. The Austrian Bernd Fischer secured bronze with 683 points. Roberth Parth from Naturns was able to keep up with the world's best target and stick shooters and took an excellent fourth place with 668 points to the cheers of the many South Tyrolean fans, only 15 points behind the bronze medal. “I am very happy and satisfied with my competition. “I gave it my all today and achieved the maximum,” said Robert Parth, happy about his fourth place. Roman Zublasing from Kaltern was able to improve one place in the final and took seventh place with 663 points.

There was an exciting final for the women. The German Marina Dunstmair and the Austrian defending champion Susanne Sohm-Armellini fought head-to-head for the gold medal until the end. With two lanes to go, the German was 18 points ahead of the Austrian. Before the last shot, Sohm-Armellini was two points ahead of Dunstmair. The Austrian didn't score any more points. Four points were enough for Dunstmair to win the title. The German won the European Championship title with 655 points ahead of Susanne Sohm-Armellini (653) and the German Karin Schubert (616). No South Tyrolean qualified for the women's final.

The last medals at the European Open Curling Championships in Bruneck will be awarded tomorrow in the team game. Both South Tyrolean teams qualified for the semi-finals. The men play against the USA from 8 a.m., the women against Austria from 9.45:XNUMX a.m.
