First update on the freestyle skier who suffered a serious fall

Following Cassie Sharpe's heavy fall in the qualifying round for the Olympic halfpipe final, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) has given a first update.

According to the COC, Sharpe is in "stable condition." She is being examined by medical personnel from the COC and Freestyle Canada, the statement continued. No further information is currently available.

The 33-year-old 2018 Olympic champion fell while landing after a trick, hitting her head hard on the ice tube. Sharpe received initial treatment and was taken away on a stretcher after about ten minutes. When she waved both arms and slightly raised her head, the spectators cheered with relief.

Several serious falls had already occurred during the snowboard competitions in the Livigno halfpipe. Australian Cameron Bolton broke two cervical vertebrae in one of these falls.
