Maria Gasslitter continues to cause a sensation

Just over a month ago, Maria Gasslitter caused a sensation at her Olympic debut in Livigno. Now, the young freestyle skier from Val Gardena has made another statement.

At the Olympic Games, Gasslitter finished ninth in Big Air and tenth in Slopestyle – a more than respectable achievement for the 19-year-old. The Freestyle World Cup circuit is currently in Tignes, France, where Gasslitter attracted attention with a third-place finish in the Big Air qualification.

With 84,75 points, only Britain's Kirsty Muir (89,00) and Finland's Anni Karava (85,75) scored higher in qualifying. However, some of the sport's top stars are not participating. The final, featuring the top eight, will take place on Friday evening.

To date, Gasslitter's best World Cup result is a fifth place in slopestyle. This competition takes place in Tignes on Thursday. The qualifying round is scheduled for Gasslitter and his competitors in the morning, with the final set for midday. Incidentally, Italian Miro Tabanelli was the fastest in the men's slopestyle qualifying round.
