Jarl Magnus Riiber's career was a resounding success story. The Nordic combined skier racked up five overall World Cup victories and an incredible eleven gold medals at World Championships. But as magnificent as the Norwegian's career was, it came to a bittersweet end.

In March 2025, Riiber announced that he had been diagnosed with Crohn's disease – an incurable bowel disease. Because Riiber also wanted to spend more time with his family, he ended his career at just 27 years old, a career that ranks among the most successful of all time in winter sports. Since then, Riiber has been enjoying his retirement – ​​and has now experienced a personal highlight.

Riiber has married his long-time girlfriend, Sunna Margrét Tryggvadottir. The couple shared a picture on Instagram with the caption: "Mr. and Mrs. Riiber." Riiber and his wife met in 2014 and already have two children together.

The post attracted numerous congratulatory messages from the winter sports scene. Among those offering their congratulations were cross-country skiing star Heidi Weng and biathlon queen Marte Olsbu Røiseland.
