The Gsieser Tal Lauf once again creates cross-country skiing euphoria

The 40 years should not be viewed as aging, but rather as a maturing process: the Gsieser Tal Lauf, which also extends across the municipality of Welsberg-Taisten, is celebrating its anniversary this weekend. At the start this Sunday, “sold out” for the classic race was already announced. All start numbers were sold out in advance.

The victories in the classic style race over 30 kilometers went to Michaela Patscheider (Team Robinson Trentino) and Tommaso Dellagiacoma (Team Internorm), both of whom were able to repeat their successes from the previous year. Heli Heiskanen and Lorenzo Busin won the 42-kilometer race.

“The start was very hard,” says South Tyrolean Michaela Patscheider at the finish, “I felt better as the kilometers went by and at the intersection I decided on the short route. I am very happy with my result.”

The Finn Heli Heiskanen, on the other hand, chose the 42km and celebrated an immediate victory: “It was my first race here and I am very satisfied, the conditions were excellent!” The German Franziska Müller took second place. She fell in the early stages, but then made an impressive comeback on the climb from St. Magdalena. The Norwegian Hanna Kristine Larsen completed the podium over 42 km.

Anna Schmidhofer and Nicole Donzallaz, both from Team Internorm, finished behind Patscheider on the shorter distance.

In the men's race, there were the same winners in both races as in 2023: Team Internorm colleagues Tommaso Dellagiacoma (30 km) and Lorenzo Busin (42 km) defended their titles. Dellagiacoma won just ahead of Max Olex. The German had lost a few positions at the start, but fought his way forward over the course of the race and ultimately ended up in second place. Christian Lorenzi, another athlete from Team Internorm, came third over the 32 km.

Busin played to his strengths over the long distance and was able to gain a lead over his pursuers with a successful move on the climb to St. Magdalena, which was enough for victory. “The goal was to win, but Lorenzo was really very good and deserved the success,” said second-placed Dietmar Nöckler, who made a great gesture at the finish: “Didi” picked up his father Friedrich, who also took part in the run and had already won in 1985, and accompanied him to the finish.

The winners of today's 42 km also won the intermediate sprints: Heli Heiskanen the Sportful Sprint, Lorenzo Busin the Alperia Sprint. The two were also crowned “Queen & King of the Mountain” by winning the mountain classification for the climb near St. Magdalena.

In the afternoon it was the little ones' turn. The 30th edition of the “Mini Gsieser” was also on the program. Over 300 young cross-country skiers took part.

The freestyle races are scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, and then the races will be over 30 and 42 kilometers on the same route. The race also counts for the “Coppa Italia”. The starting signal is at 9.30 a.m. The start and finish are again in St. Martin in Casies. Four-time Olympic champion Dario Cologna will also be there.
