At the Olympic dress rehearsal in Goms, Switzerland, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo once again demonstrated his dominance in the World Cup. The Norwegian convincingly won the 20-kilometer mass start in the classic technique, leading a Norwegian sweep of the podium ahead of Emil Iversen and Harald Østberg Amundsen. The trio broke away from the rest of the field halfway through the race and left no doubt about the outcome.
Behind the dominant Norwegian contingent, the focus was primarily on the remaining podium positions. The best Italian was Elia Barp, who finished in 13th place, delivering a solid result in this final assessment before the Winter Games.
Premiere for women
Johanna Matintalo caused a surprise in the women's race. The Finn put on a tactically strong performance on the challenging course in Goms and narrowly beat Jessie Diggins (USA) and Astrid Øyre Slind (Norway) in the final sprint. For the 29-year-old, it was the first World Cup victory of her career – and a statement just before the Olympic break.Johanna Matintalo celebrates her success. © ANSA / SALVATORE DI NOLFI
Several top favorites, including the leading Swedes, opted not to start, but the field still presented a strong showing. The best Italian was Martina Di Centa, who finished the mass start in 29th place and gained valuable race experience.
