Love is over: With a broken heart on the World Cup podium

It was just before Christmas when Finnish cross-country skier Jasmi Joensuu caused a stir in the winter sports world. Not with her athletic performance on the trails, but with an emotional post on social media.

"This was the worst week of my life," wrote the 28-year-old, announcing her breakup with her long-time boyfriend Juho. "I already knew during the last World Cup race that something was wrong, and when I came home it became clear that we were going our separate ways. A week of sleepless nights made this feeling unbearable," said the emotional words of the cross-country skier, who has competed in almost 100 World Cup races.

Joensuu poured out her heart: "A little over five years ago, I met a great person by chance and fell head over heels in love with him. Now I feel extremely sad, disappointed and it's as if the ground has been pulled out from under my feet. But damn it, I'll find my smile again."

The first podium place in Toblach These are lines that have caused a stir far beyond the cross-country skiing scene. Joensuu has actually found her smile again, just a few days after this emotional post. The Finn took part in the famous Tour de Ski and came second in the sprint race in Toblach - the first World Cup podium finish of her career.

Joensuu was only beaten by Jessie Diggins and was delighted with her success - and also shed a few tears. "There hasn't been much to smile about recently," the cross-country skier told Finnish media. Jasmi Joensuu finished the Tour de Ski in a strong 15th place. Another reason to smile again.
