It's not Klæbo, but another Norwegian who is cheering

The cross-country skiing World Cup started the new season on Friday in Ruka, Finland. Traditionally, the first points were awarded in the sprint and, as expected, the men's victory went only to the Norwegians. In the end, however, it was not last season's dominator Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (+1,70 seconds), who came third, who triumphed, but rather his compatriot Erik Valnes. The Frenchman Richard Jouve came second (+0,83 seconds).

Also in the final was veteran Federico Pellegrino (+2,40 seconds), who came fourth behind Klaebo. In the last few meters, the Azzurro lacked the necessary reserves to knock the exceptional Norwegian talent off the podium. The other places in the final were taken by Ansgar Evensen (5/+8,45 seconds) and Matz William Jenssen (6/+11,75 seconds), with whom Norway had four athletes in the final.

The situation was similar for the women - with the difference that the sprint nation Sweden dominated the competition. As in the previous year, Emma Ribom secured victory, ahead of her compatriot Jonna Sundling (+0,85 seconds). Only Kristine Staavas Skistad from Norway prevented the Swedish quadruple victory, who squeezed into third place ahead of Frida Karlsson and Linn Svahn. Jasmi Joensuu from Finland came sixth in the final.

There were no South Tyroleans in Ruka, only Federico Pellegrino held the flag high from an Italian perspective.
