Norwegians dominate in Aosta Valley – Hellweger out in the quarterfinals

On Saturday, a classic style sprint was scheduled at the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup in Cogne in the Aosta Valley. The Norwegians won it all.

In the final of the best 6, Erik Valnes relegated his compatriots Ansgar Evensen and Even Northug to second and third place. Frenchman Richard Youve narrowly missed the podium in fourth place.

After his elimination in the quarter-finals, the best Azzurro, Giacomo Gabrielli from Val di Fiemme, finished in 13th place, which is his best World Cup result. Local hero Federico Pellegrino was also eliminated in the knockout phase. The Aosta Valley native ended up in 14th place. Michael Hellweger from Sarnen also made it into the quarter-finals of the best 30, but ended up in 25th place.

In the women's competition, the Swede Maja Dahlqvist won ahead of the Swiss Nadine Fähndrich and the German Laura Gimmler. Caterina Ganz was the only Azzurra to make it to the semi-finals and finished in 12th place.
