There was a wedding in the cross-country skiing circus.

Butterflies in the stomach: Olympic champion has said yes

Three years ago she became Olympic champion on the cross-country ski trail, and now a German cross-country skier is celebrating her greatest victory outside of sport.

German Olympic cross-country champion Katharina Hennig will never forget this Easter. Not because the Easter ham tasted so delicious or the Easter egg hunt was particularly successful. Rather, Hennig was delighted by a personal highlight. On Holy Saturday, she married her longtime boyfriend, Christian Dotzler.

The 28-year-old revealed this sweet secret with some sweet photos on Instagram. "It was very emotional, and tears flowed," Hennig explained to Free Press. Photos posted by the cross-country skier on Instagram show the wedding couple beaming in the sun amidst picturesque mountain landscapes.

Things are looking up for Katharina Hennig, the exceptional cross-country skier on the German team. Three years ago, she celebrated her greatest success when the winter sportswoman from Saxony sensationally won the gold medal in the team sprint at the Olympic Games with Victoria Carl. Hennig also has significant other successes to her name, reaching the podium 16 times in the World Cup and winning her first and so far only race in Val di Fiemme in 2023. Hennig also won two medals at the World Championships.

The wedding also brought another piece of news: From now on, the cross-country skier will compete in the World Cup under a new surname, Hennig-Dotzler.
