A North Tyrolean Nordic combined skier on the grand throne

Johannes Lamparter has secured his second large crystal globe for winning the overall World Cup in Nordic Combined.

The 24-year-old from North Tyrol finished fourth in the competition in Lahti, which included the large hill ski jump and the subsequent 10km cross-country race. Lamparter can therefore no longer be overtaken by his last remaining competitor, the Norwegian Jens Luraas Oftebro, who won on Friday, at the World Cup final next weekend at Holmenkollen in Oslo.

Lamparter went into the penultimate individual competition of the winter with a 173-point lead and immediately set the pace on the ski jump. After a jump of 129,5 meters, he started the cross-country race in first place with an 18-second advantage; Jens Luraas Oftebro started 20 seconds later.

After 2,5 km, four pursuers caught up with Lamparter, but two kilometers from the finish, three-time Olympic champion Jens Luraas Oftebro broke away and won comfortably ahead of his brother Einar Luraas Oftebro (+3,3 seconds) and the Finn Ilkka Herola (+10,3). Lamparter crossed the finish line 25,2 seconds later. Aaron Kostner from Val Gardena finished in 27th place.

The three-time Olympic medalist had already secured the small crystal globes in the mass start and compact events in 2026; now Lamparter has also clinched his second overall victory after his win in 2022/23. Only Klaus Sulzenbacher, in 1987/88 and 1989/90, had previously achieved this feat as an Austrian.

The women's race was won by Finn Minja Korhonen in the sprint ahead of Norway's overall World Cup winner Ida Marie Hagen. The best Austrian finisher was Lisa Hirner, who came in eighth, 2:05 minutes behind.
