During the season, the athletes of the two disciplines rarely encounter each other. Although their races take place on the same natural tracks, they compete with different equipment and under different federations. The joy of coming together again for the joint season finale was all the greater. At the second joint state championship, the focus was therefore not only on the sporting achievements but also on the exchange and camaraderie. Fittingly, the weather was perfect: against the impressive backdrop of the Dolomites, the lugers enjoyed a fitting end to the winter season.
There were also some exciting sporting events. In the women's alpine luge, Jenny Castiglioni from ASV Latsch emerged victorious. In an extremely close race, she won by just seven hundredths of a second ahead of Nadine Staffler from ASV Laas Raiffeisen. Third place went to Daniela Mittermair from ASV Deutschnofen.
Jenny Castiglioni won the title in the women's alpine luge competition.
In the women's luge competition, Theresa Hilpold of ASV Latzfons-Verdings secured the state championship title. Silvia Runggatscher and Hannah Runggatscher, both competing for ASV Villnöss, followed in second and third place, respectively.
Theresa Hilpold is the new state champion in luge.
The new state champions were also crowned in the men's events. In alpine luge, Alex Oberhofer of ASV Laas Raiffeisen triumphed. Daniel Gruber (ASV Laas Raiffeisen) and Matthias Lambacher (ASV Villnöss) finished second and third, respectively. In sport luge, Simon Schwienbacher of ASC Laugen-Tisens took the title, followed by Maximilian Gräber (ASC Olang) and Christof Gruber (ASV Villanders).
Simon Schwienbacher won in the luge competition.
In the doubles competition, the titles also went to Villnöss: In sport luge, Lambacher/Schwienbacher from ASV Villnöss won, while in alpine luge, the duo Lambacher/Lambacher – also from ASV Villnöss – prevailed.
The best teams were also recognized in the club rankings. In alpine luge, ASV Laas Raiffeisen secured the state championship title, while in sport luge, ASC Laugen-Tisens came out on top.
After this successful end to the season, South Tyrol's luge athletes are now taking a well-deserved summer break. They will meet again on the region's natural toboggan runs by the end of the year at the latest, when the first training sessions of the new season begin.
