Podium to conclude: Fischnaller only behind hole

Dominik Fischnaller ended the luge World Cup season with a final exclamation mark.

The South Tyrolean skier raced to a strong second place in Altenberg (Germany) on Sunday, securing his next podium finish after winning Olympic bronze in Milano Cortina. The victory in the World Cup final went to Germany's Felix Loch, who thereby secured his eighth overall World Cup title and equaled Armin Zöggeler's record in the all-time standings.

Fischnaller had already been in second place after the first run on Saturday and confirmed his strong performance on the second day of competition on the challenging track in Altenberg. In the end, the 31-year-old was only 0,364 seconds behind the unleashed Loch, who triumphed in 1:46.069 minutes and also set a track record in the second run.

Felderer in the top 10

Behind Fischnaller, the three Austrians David Gleirscher (+0,434), Nico Gleirscher (+0,644) and Wolfgang Kindl (+0,751) finished in second and third place, respectively. Leon Felderer took eighth place (+1,188 seconds), while Alex Gufler finished 18th, 2,132 seconds behind.

In the women's competition, Germany's Merle Fräbel triumphed over her compatriot Julia Taubitz (+0,137) and Latvia's Kedija Aparjode (+0,143). This marked Taubitz's fifth consecutive overall victory. South Tyrol's Verena Hofer finished in 10th place (+1,464), while Sandra Robatscher was close behind in 11th (+1,825).
