Tobogganing: National teams confirmed for 2012-2013 season

The South Tyroleans proved last season that they are among the best in the world. Above all, exceptional luger Armin Zöggeler, who added silver to his collection of medals at the European Championships in Paramonovo, Russia, and bronze at the World Championships in Altenberg. The 38-year-old from Völlan wants to continue his career until the 2014 Olympic Games and, if possible, say goodbye to Sochi with his sixth Olympic medal since 1994. Florian Gruber and Simon Kainzwaldner won gold at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck.

In the natural track tobogganing category, however, Patrick Pigneter won the overall World Cup and his second European championship title, while Evelin Lanthaler from Passiria was able to celebrate the bronze medal.

Emanuel Rieder rose from the juniors to the A team in the luge track. The 18-year-old from Meransen particularly attracted attention with a second place in the overall Junior World Cup and a victory in the World Cup race in Oberhof.

For the natural track tobogganists, Alexandra Obrist gave up the toboggan. After the 19-year-old from Latzfons was crowned junior world champion in February 2012, she decided to study education or social work in either Innsbruck or Verona in the fall. New to the women's team next season is Greta Pinggera from Laas. Pinggera placed second at the 2012 Junior World Championships in Laces.

The President of the Italian Winter Sports Federation FISI, Flavio Roda, has approved the teams and coaching staff of artificial and natural track luge for the 2012-2013 season, proposed by the racing director Karl Damian. The teams consist exclusively of South Tyroleans.
