South Tyrol's luge aces continue to ride the wave of success

After winning gold at the Olympic Games, South Tyrol's luge athletes followed up with another victory in the World Cup. Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer took the win in St. Moritz, while Ivan Nagler and Fabian Malleier finished second.

In the only natural ice track on the World Cup circuit, Andrea Vötter (Völs) and Marion Oberhofer (Rodeneck) were already comfortably on course for victory after the first run. In the second run, the two South Tyrolean lugers kept their cool and secured the win ahead of Elisa-Marie Storch and Pauline Patz from Germany (+0,595 seconds). Third place went to the Latvian duo Anda Upite and Madara Padlova (+0,605).

Nadia Falkensteiner (Kiens) and Annalena Huber (Montal) finished the race in eighth place (+1,906). A total of ten women's teams competed. The two North Tyroleans, Selina Egle and Lara Kipp, secured the overall World Cup title with one race remaining. Their fifth-place finish was enough to clinch it.

Nagler/Malleier take second place

In the men's doubles, Ivan Nagler from Val Badia and Fabian Malleier from Val di Funes were in third place at the halfway point and surged into second with the fastest run in the second run. They ultimately missed out on victory by just four hundredths of a second to the winning North Tyrolean duo of Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl. Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt (Germany) completed the podium (+0,114). Among the 14 sleds that started, Emanuel Rieder (Meransen) and Simon Kainzwaldner (Villanders) finished sixth (+0,440).

Verena Hofer was also on the podium

The women's singles race took place around midday on Saturday. Verena Hofer, also from South Tyrol, landed on the podium. The Feldthurns native edged out fourth-placed Sandra Robatscher by a mere hundredth of a second. Robatscher had even been in the lead at the halfway point, with Hofer in fourth place.
