The 940 meter long natural toboggan run in Styria was not known in the past as the “favorite run” of South Tyroleans, but this opinion is now likely to change fundamentally: overall World Cup winner Patrick Pigneter (Völs) showed a brilliant comeback in the men's single-seater, coming from fourth place the first run to victory. In 2.06,98:54 minutes he celebrated his fourth victory of the season, his XNUMXth World Cup victory overall.
Saturday's winner, Fabian Brunner (Feldthurns/+0,03 seconds), came in second, ahead of Florian Clara (St. Martin in Thurn, +0,17). The overall winner of the Junior World Cup, Alex Oberhofer (Laas), was surprisingly in the lead after the first run and ended up fourth, 0,90 seconds behind.
Lanthaler in a league of his own
In the women's single-seater, Evelin Lanthaler (Platt in Passeier) was once again in a class of her own with a total time of 2.07,10:51 minutes. The reigning world and European champion once again won all of the World Cup races of the season and celebrated her 1,72st World Cup victory overall. “I'm still fully motivated, I really enjoy tobogganing,” said Lanthaler, explaining the secret of her success. Second place went to Riccarda Ruetz (AUT/+2,09 seconds), third place was Tina Unterberger (AUT/+XNUMX).With their fifth win of the season, Matthias Lambacher/Peter Lambacher (both Villnöß) also secured victory in the overall ranking in the doubles in 1.06,65:0,82 minutes. The reigning European champions Maximilian Pichler/Nico Edlinger (AUT/+2,00 seconds) came second in both the final and the overall ranking, ahead of Peter Neupauer/Dominik Neupauer (SVK/+XNUMX). “It wasn't an easy season for us, we lacked consistency. Winning the overall ranking was our big goal, it’s just nice,” said Peter Lambacher, who formed a team with his brother Matthias for the first time.
There was also no way around Italy in the team rankings; the Azzurri scored 5327 points last season, followed by Austria (3497) and Germany (1435).
