Maximilian Pichler/Nico Edlinger did not reveal their cards in the morning training, but in the afternoon race the reigning European champions set a best time of 1.08.60:850:0,09 minutes. For Pichler/Edlinger it is the third World Cup victory in the third race of the season, and also the first victory in the doubles for Austria on the 0,73-meter-long "Gafair" toboggan run on the edge of the Stelvio National Park. Last year's winners Matthias Lambacher/Peter Lambacher came in second, just XNUMX seconds behind, ahead of the fastest in training, Tobias Paur/Andreas Hofer (ITA/+XNUMX).
Pichler/Edlinger remain in the World Cup leader's jersey with 300 points, ahead of Paur/Hofer (240) and Lambacher/Lambacher (225). "It was a close call today, the victory came as a bit of a surprise to us. We didn't feel particularly comfortable in training this morning, and the race didn't go perfectly either, but it was much better," analyzed Pichler. Edlinger does not want to commit to the role of favorite at the home World Championships in Kühtai in two weeks: "The competition is not sleeping. We can't rest on our laurels and will continue to work hard."
On Monday, the single-seater races are scheduled in Laas/Lasa.
