The time has finally come: the natural track tobogganing world cup starts in Latzfons

A new competition format will initially be used as a test in Latzfons. Only the best 25 men, 15 women and ten pairs of doubles are allowed to start in the World Cup; all other participants compete in their own race, the Nations Cup. The second training run, which will be held on Friday, January 6th, serves as qualification for the World Cup.

The so-called “seeds” who result from the last three races do not have to qualify. For the men, these include the overall World Cup winner Patrick Pignter, Anton Blasbichler, Rudi Resch and Alex Gruber, all from South Tyrol, as well as the Austrian Thomas Schopf. In the women's category, the seeded group is Ekatharina Lavrentjeva from Russia, Renate Gietl from Feldthurn and Melanie Batkowski from Austria. Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara, Christian Schatz/Gerhard Mühlbacher and Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev are definitely qualified for the doubles.

Worth mentioning are the young local tobogganers Armin Folie, Martin Kerschbaumer, Carmen Planötscher, Sarah Gruber and Greta Pinggera, who will be competing in a World Cup event for the first time in Latzfons.

The President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Josef Fendt, will attend the test event. The aim is to help the sport take off with increased TV presence, more attractive racing weekends, targeted and future-oriented promotion of nations and the use of an internal FIL working group on natural track.
