Curiosity in title fights: A woman faster than all men
At the Italian natural track luge championships in Jaufental, South Tyrol's Sportswoman of the Year Evelin Lanthaler caused quite a stir: the Passeier woman not only won the title with ease, but also set a track record - and was faster than all the men in her fabulous run.

Tobogganing has been taking place on the "Tonnerboden" track in the Jaufental for around 5 years. Now there is a new track record: Evelin Lanthaler achieved this yesterday, Monday. South Tyrol's sportswoman of the year conjured up a dream run on the track in the first run, and at the end the clock stopped at 50,25 seconds. A time that even the men would not be able to achieve.
It is no wonder that Lanthaler won the Italian championship title after two runs with a total time of 2:1.40,90 minutes, 2,37 seconds ahead of Daniela Mittermair (Deutschnofen). Third place went to Jenny Castiglioni from Partschins (+3), who thus won the junior women's title. In the men's race, Daniel Gruber from Schleis won with a total time of 2,56:1.40,80 minutes. In his first run, he came closest to Lanthaler's track record with a time of 50,30. Silver went to Fabian Brunner from Feldthurns (+0,25), bronze to the experienced Völser Patrick Pigneter (+0,68).
For the natural track luge aces, the competition continues next weekend with the World Cup in Laas. On Sunday, January 5, the doubles will compete, and on Epiphany Day the women's and men's events will take place.
